The Shakopee Lions Club Student of the Month for April is Zella Lucas. She is an eighth grade student at Shakopee Area Catholic School. Her parents are Bradley and Jennifer Lucas.
Zella swims competitively with the Aquajets swim team in Eden Prairie. She studies piano and violin at Kramer’s’ School of Music in Eden Prairie. She has been playing the violin and piano for seven years and she was part of a violin quartet that won the Dakota County Fair in 2017.
More recently, she competed in the MMTA Piano Contest and advanced to the finals where she will play in an honors concert at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
She spent many hours Feed My Starving Children and has volunteered at Simpson Housing Services in Minneapolis. One day she hopes to receive acceptance letters from Stanford, California, Georgia, and the University of Minnesota.
She will remember moments like these when she was given a chance and helped by all of the wonderful people who surround her each day. She hopes that she can touch the heart of some along the way by giving food to those who need it and bringing us one step closer to a cure to Cystic Fibrosis.
Students are selected by school staff on a school year rotational basis at Shakopee Area Catholic School, Shakopee West Middle School, and Shakopee East Middle School. Students are selected on their merits of academics, extra-curricular involvement, volunteerism, citizenship, leadership, and character.
Zella is student No. 179 to be recognized by the club since this student program began in February 1998. Congratulations to Zella!
