The March 2019 Shakopee Lions Student of the Month is Emma Zauhar. She is currently an eight-grader at Shakopee East Middle School. Her parents are Sean and Koraida Zauhar of Shakopee.
At Shakopee East Middle School, she is the secretary of the National Junior Honor Society, helping to organize meetings, keeping attendance, and other duties as needed. She is also the Student Council president, where she leads monthly meetings, along with organizing events and fundraisers. The purpose of these activities is to engage the entire student body in creating a positive school community.
She volunteers with the Junior GLOmies, working with special needs students on cooking and learning other life skills. She is a member of the jazz band and regular grade band at East. She plays the trumpet for both.
In her free time, she volunteers at the Scott County Public Library, helping with the Scott County readmobile during library events and with any other event that might need her help.
She recently also volunteered along with her family during a flooding situation in Jordan, taking care of pets at an emergency shelter. She likes to listen to music, spend time with her dog and play tennis. She has a positive mindset and is always pushing others to do their best. School is very important to Emma as it keeps her on track with learning and growing as a person. She believes that volunteering is the most efficient way in building a tight community.
Emma is student No. 178 to be recognized by the club since the inception of this student recognition program in February 1998. Students are chosen by staff members at Shakopee Area Catholic School, Shakopee West Middle School, and Shakopee East Middle School on a rotating basis during the school year for their attributes in leadership, volunteerism, academics, extra-curriculars, and citizenship.
Congratulations to Emma.
