Shakopee High School students and their fellow community members gathered Wednesday evening to celebrate a semester of hard work at the Saber Showcase.

Each semester, students have the opportunity to present their biggest projects at the showcase. Dozens of areas of interest were represented, from robotics demonstrations and slideshow presentations about conspiracy theories to decorative cake contests and students throwing pottery live.

This semester's showcase included the new component of a career fair with local business people available for students to engage and ask questions.

At the same time as the Saber Showcase, school and community leaders were in a ceremony for the district to be designated as a Ford Next Generation Learning Community, which is one of the final steps in implementing the Academies program.

Ford NGL serves as a network of academy model high schools throughout the country. In order to be designated as a Ford NGL Community, Shakopee school officials had to develop and implement a three-year plan to roll out the academies and ensure all structures and processes are in place to engage local employers and civic leaders in supporting and sustaining the academies.
