A Shakopee High School teacher has been named a candidate for 2019 Minnesota Teacher of the Year.
Tania Drexler-Gutierrez is an English language teacher and has worked for the Shakopee district since 2006. She is one of 168 candidates for teacher of the year.
Between now and when the Teacher of the Year is announced in May, the candidate field will be whittled down by a panel to a group of semi-finalists and finalists.
The Teacher of the Year program is lead by Education Minnesota and aims to recognize and celebrate excellence in teaching. Last year, Shakopee’s own Kelly Holstine was honored with the title. Holstine is an English teacher at Tokata Learning Center, the district’s alternative high school.
