The Shakopee School Board has appointed Jon McBroom temporary acting interim superintendent while the district’s interim superintendent gets cancer treatment.
The board passed a motion to approve an employee agreement with McBroom with an annual salary of $105,600, at a prorated daily rate of $522 through Jan. 15. He will also receive $1,200 per month that will go into Minnesota’s Health Care Saving Plan. On Jan. 15, McBroom will move to a prorated version of interim Superintendent Gary Anger’s contract, as worked out by the personnel committee chair or school board chair.
“I think Jon is being very generous with his time, knowing our budget restraints,” said school board chairman Scott Swanson.
McBroom was superintendent of Shakopee Public Schools for 11 years, from July 2000 to June 2011, before retiring. During his tenure, the community passed three bond referendums and two operating levies.
Following his retirement in Shakopee, McBroom served as interim superintendent in Eden Prairie from November 2011 to June 2012. In addition to still being active in the Shakopee community, he also serves as Region 2AA Secretary for the Minnesota State High School League.
Anger replaced former superintendent Rod Thompson, who resigned amid a police investigation into his personal use of his district credit card.
