The Shakopee boys tennis doubles team of Senior Alex Kortgard and sophomore Tharun Inturi lost its first match at the state tournament.

Kortgard and Inturi lost 3-6, 5-7 to Mounds View senior Michael Cao and freshman Christo Alex on Thursday morning at the Baseline Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

The loss doesn’t end the team’s state tournament as they still have a chance to play in the consolation bracket later in the tournament.

Kortgard and Inturi started their first round state tournament match by breaking Alex’s serve to go up 1-0.

Mounds View broke Inturi’s serve right back to tie the match at 1-1. They would win four straight games to go up 4-1 before closing the match out at 6-3.

In the second set, Kortgard and Inturi led 5-4 but lost three straight games to lose the set 5-7 and the match 3-6, 5-7.
