The Shakopee boys basketball team was eliminated from the section playoffs on Tuesday night.
The No. 4 seeded Sabers lost 75-59 to the No. 1 seeded Prior Lake Lakers at a packed Prior Lake High School on Tuesday night in the Class 4A, Section 2 semifinals.
Shakopee had no answer for the size of Prior Lake in the second half as 6-10 Robert Jones and 6-10 Dawson Garcia dominated for Lakers as they turned a one-point halftime lead into a 16-point victory.
Jones and Garcia combined for 44 of the Lakers points in the win.
Prior Lake started the game fast as they built a 13-6 early lead but Shakopee responded with an 11-2 run to take a 17-15 lead with five minutes left in the first half.
The Lakers held off that charge and went into locker room up 24-23.
Prior Lake took charge in the second half and built the lead up to 35-27 behind a couple Sam Nissen three's.
That lead grew to 46-35 and 51-37 midway through the half.
Shakopee had a small answer as they cut the lead to 56-45 after a Brooks Allen three with 5:30 left in the game.
The Lakers answered right back with a Jones three that pushed the lead to 61-45 with three minutes left.
A couple Shakopee three-pointers by Aaron Bosley and Tanner Koenen cut the lead to 65-57 with two minutes left but that's as close as the Sabers would get as the Lakers finished the game on a 10-2 run.
Allen led the Sabers with 20 points and Will Cordes added 14.
For the Lakers, Jones finished with 23, Garcia with 21, Nissen with 13 and Tyler Ihenacho added 11.
The Lakers will take on Eden Prairie in the section championship game on Friday after the Eagles defeated Edina 63-40.
