With temperatures in the mid-90s, it was a steamy night on the oval at Elko Speedway on June 29.
There were double features in Late Models, Thunder Cars and Great North Legends with six different drivers capturting checkered flags. It was also the third Eve of Destruction Night, so Monster Trucks and Big Air ATVs thrilled the crowd.
The fourth Eve of Destruction is set for Elko Speedway on July 6 starting at 6 p.m. There were also be fireworks after the races. Action starts at 6 p.m.
Meanwhile, the two feature winners in Late Models in June 29 action were Adam Bendzick of New Prague in the first race and Lawrence Berthianue of New Hope in the second one. It was the first win of the season for Berthianue and the second for Bendzick, who is in the top five in the season points race with 557 points.
Jacob Goede of Carver, the defending points champion in Late Models, is leading with 665 points, which is 31 better than Chris Marek of Elko. Justin Neisius of Eagan is third (580), while Bryan Wrolstad of Faribault is fourth (578).
Finishing behind Bendzick in the first feature race June 29 were Wrolstand, Chad Walen of Prior Lake and Joe Neisius of Rosemount.
In the second feature, Goede was the runner-up, followed by Justin Neisius, Michael Ostdiek of Lakeville and Owin Giles of New Market.
In Thunder Cars, Conrad Jorgenson of Lakeville captured the first feature, while Bryce Blohm of Prior Lake was the winner in the second race. The two have dominated the division so far this season with each earning their fifth feature victory. So it’s no surprise the two are sitting atop the season points standings. Jorgenson has a slim eight-point lead over Blohm with 633 points.
Eric Campbell of Lonsdale is third with 573 points, followed by Keith Palsrud of Rogers (518) and Tony Holm of Prior Lake (450).
In the first Thunder Cars feature, Blohm finished second behind Jorgenson, while Campbell was third. Steve Schultz of Webster ended up fourth, while Norm Grabinger of Faribault took fifth.
In the second race, Campbell was second behind Blohm. Johnny Magnum of Lakeville grabbed third place, followed by Jorgenson and Schultz.
Meanwhile, in Great North Legends, Robert Carter of Lakeville and Jon Lemke of Savage won the first and second features, respectively. It was the first victory of the season for both drivers.
Baiden Heskett of Shakopee has dominated the division in the wins department through the first five weeks of racing with five. However, he does not lead in the season points race. Cole Klein of Rogers is atop the standings with 552 points, while Heskett is 24 points behind. Austin Jahr of Farmington is third (529), followed by Lemke (526) and Carter (487).
Fishing behind Carter in June 29 racing were Klein in the runner-up spot, followed by Will McCully of Rochester, Matt Allen of Minnetrista and Lemke.
In the second race, Tristan Swanson of Elko held down the second spot, followed by Klein, Jahr and Stocker.
Power Stocks and Bandoleros were not in action June 29.
Nick Oxborough of Lakeville is the points leader in Power Stocks so far this summer with 590 points. Michael Stoer of Prior Lake is second (553), followed by Taylor Goldman of Minnetonka (526), Paul Hamilton of Hastings (485) and Joe Prusak of Clayton, Wisconsin (451).
In Bandoleros, Alex Hartwin of Portage, Wisconsin, is atop the season points race with 300 points. Josiah Kottschade of Rogers is second (273), followed by Ayrton Brockhouse of Shakopee (268), Jensen Vadnais of White Bear Lake (256) and Adam Ratlif (232).
